Try word families worksheets to help children understand patterns in the written word. As the concept of patterns are understood, a child's reading ability can significantly improve as well as their ability to feel successful.
Move slowly through each of the families. Make sure the child can confidently recognize and read the sound each combination of letters makes before moving on to the next family.
